1770년대 카를로스 3세는 초원 지대를 마드리드의 대로로 바꾸었고, 가운데에는 분수 세 개를 세웠으며 주변에는 과학 기관들을 두었습니다. 오늘날 이 대로는 유네스코 세계유산이며, 그 곁의 많은 건물은 처음 목적과 다른 용도로 쓰이고 있습니다.

시벨레스 광장에서 출발해 플라타너스 나무 아래를 걸으며 아폴로와 넵투노 분수를 지나고, 티센 미술관과 리츠 호텔을 봅니다. 프라도 미술관의 고야 문과 벨라스케스 문의 정면을 읽고, 식물원의 정문, 카이사포럼의 떠 있는 듯한 발전소 건물, 식물원의 옛 터 위에 세운 부처 건물을 봅니다. 마지막은 1892년 지어진 아토차의 철제 홀과, 게르니카를 소장한 왕립 병원 건물이었던 레이나 소피아 미술관입니다.
