What to expect

The Escalade and Geneva under siege

This route segment focuses on the Escalade, when Geneva was almost taken during a violent surprise attack. As you follow clues through the streets, you trace the outlines of the old defenses and picture how the city was nearly breached.

Features

• Content on Escalade is built directly into the city exploration game, so each riddle or task reveals how the terrible fight of the Escalade unfolded and why it still matters in Geneva today.
• The self-guided city exploration game format lets you move between locations linked to the Escalade without a physical tour guide, using only your phone to unlock stories.
• Flexible start, pause and resume anytime during this part of the route, which makes it easy to stop for photos or a break before continuing the siege narrative.
• Free access for children means families can include younger players in solving the Escalade challenges at no extra cost.

Empress "Sisi" and Elisabeth of Austria

You continue to the area associated with Empress "Sisi", Elisabeth of Austria, where she was stabbed to death. The game steps guide you toward nearby streets and viewpoints that help you imagine the final moments of her life in Geneva.

Features

• Dedicated content on Sisi is presented as you approach the place where Empress "Sisi", Elisabeth of Austria, was attacked, connecting specific spots in the city to this assassination.
• Interactions in the self-guided city exploration game prompt you to observe details around you, then reveal how Sisi’s story intersected with Geneva’s public spaces.
• You can take advantage of 24/7 availability to visit this part of the route when it feels least crowded, since the game is always available to book and play any day.
• Children join this section of the game with free access, helping them engage with Sisi’s story through age-flexible puzzles alongside adults.

John Calvin and the Reformation in Geneva

Another stretch of the route brings you to places tied to the Reformation and the role John Calvin played in shaping Geneva. You move between key streets and viewpoints that illustrate how the city became a Reformation center.

Features

• Content on Calvin explains John Calvin’s influence in Geneva as you solve location-based prompts, so learning about the Reformation is integrated into the game rather than delivered as a lecture.
• The self-guided city exploration game format encourages you to notice inscriptions, building styles, and public spaces around Calvin-related sites at your own pace.
• Full flexibility means you can start this Calvin-focused segment at a separate time from the rest, pause if you wish, then resume when you are ready to continue.
• Free access for children allows younger players to share in the Calvin and Reformation content within the same game session.

Neighborhoods and hidden alleys

The experience also leads you through picturesque neighborhoods and lesser-known alleys that many visitors overlook. As you advance, the streets themselves become part of the puzzle-solving environment.

Features

• Content on neighborhoods and hidden alleys highlights smaller lanes and corners of Geneva, so you explore picturesque neighborhoods and lesser-known alleys that connect the major historical scenes.
• Within these areas, the self-guided city exploration game format turns building facades, street names, and courtyards into clues, keeping you engaged with your surroundings instead of following a fixed commentary.
• Since 24/7 availability lets you play morning, afternoon, or late evening, you can choose when these neighborhoods and hidden alleys feel most comfortable for you to explore.
• The option to pause and resume anytime is especially useful here, giving you time to stop at local spots in between game tasks while children continue to enjoy free access throughout the route.
