Your Experience

Step into a Duruma village near Diani for a traditional wedding demo, village tour, dances, and palm spirits tasting in one cultural package.

Getting started

Arrive at the designated village meeting point near Diani and check in with your hosts for the Duruma Option 1 cultural package. After a short introduction to the visit, you head into the homestead area with your group. The experience begins on foot inside the village, so wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on natural paths.

What to expect

Duruma village

This experience is set inside a local Duruma village, where you get an up-close look at the community’s way of life and its fascinating history. You move through different parts of the homestead as the visit progresses, joining in activities rather than just watching from the side.

Features

• The visit includes a village tour with a traditional healer visit, where you meet a local practitioner and see how the healer’s space fits into Duruma daily life and beliefs. Palm tree climbing is part of this segment, so you can watch how locals scale the trees that are central to the community’s livelihood.
• A traditional wedding demo forms the core of the visit, with a ceremony-style setup that lets you see how unions are marked among the Duruma people. During this, you have the option to renew your union vows in the Duruma style and observe the roles of different family members.
• Palm spirits tasting is included during your time in the village, giving you a chance to sample this local drink and connect it to the palm tree climbing you have just seen. The tasting is woven into the flow of the visit rather than treated as a separate bar-style stop.
• Traditional dances are performed by Duruma traditional dancers, who also teach you some new dance moves so you can join in. Traditional attire is provided for you to wear during key moments such as the traditional wedding demo and dances, helping you feel part of the ceremony while keeping the focus on local customs.
• Professional photos using your own equipment are part of the package; a designated person helps compose and capture shots while you are in traditional attire, during the traditional wedding demo, or taking part in traditional dances. This lets you document your time in the village tour with a traditional healer visit and palm spirits tasting without worrying about handing over your device to different people.

Wrapping up

Your visit winds down back in the main village area, where you can take any final professional photos using your own equipment in traditional attire before leaving on your own transport. Since hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, you depart independently once the cultural activities conclude.
